We went to a Portland Timbers game in April and we had a really great time. (Portland won 3-1 against Dallas – the Timbers` first victory of the season.)
Located in Portland downtown we entered the unique Providence Park stadium, which was once a baseball field. We were told that the stadium was updated many times so it got a funny twist between modern and antique style. There is also a fitness area where people can pump while watching the game. That is odd but also pretty awesome.
Atmosphere and fans are great and fun – never expected that at a soccer game in the states!
And after the first goal we also have met Timbers Joey. For every goal scored Timber Joey is chainsawing a big “log slab”, “presenting the slice to the goal scorer in a post match ritual.” Why not. It is a famous and beloved Timbers tradition.
