somewhereawesome #34: Icefield Parkway to Jasper – a glimpse into the great and wild landscapes

Stretching 232km (144mi.) through the heart of the canadian Rocky Mountains, this drive took our breath away!

Up the whole Icefield Parkway we were treated with an absolutely unique and incredibly beautiful landscape. The beauty of the whole drive is hard to describe in a few words. We saw a lot of glaciers, pristine and turquoise lakes, huge waterfalls, endless views, great canyons and beautiful mountain ranges at every turn. At our campground at the Icefield centre we even saw an avalanche that rolled down the massive glacier walls right in front of us (but still far enough away).

On top of that we had lots of canadian wildlife encounters: Black and brown Bears, Caribous, Snow Goats and Bighorn Sheeps – we had some great opportunities to spot them pretty well!

My favourites were the teddies and they were everywhere: Right beside the highway, on our parking lot, near the washroom…and they really don´t care about you at all! These guys are the most relaxed animals ever and I wanted to pet them all the time.
